Internships
The most important aspect of the University of Dreams program is securing an unbelievable internship. Let us reassure you that we stand by our Internship Guarantee and we are confident that we will secure an internship you are very happy with, as we have more than 2,000 internships to choose from in 10 cities!
To Secure your internship:
- Apply - First you must apply and be accepted into the program.
(Please note: after submitting your application, we will review and send you a response within 7 days.) http://summerinternships.com/apply
- Enroll -If you are accepted, you will secure your spot in the program by submitting your initial deposit payment. At that point, you will be assigned a Placement Agent, who will work with you on resume revision, interview coaching, and internship selection. When you feel comfortable interviewing and you have identified internships you are interested in, your Agent will begin coordinating phone interviews. (Please note: All interviews are conducted via phone.)
- Finalize your Internship - After interviewing, you can decide to accept the position, or continue interviewing for a position that better fits your career objectives. If you choose to explore other options, we simply continue to work with you until you are completely satisfied with your internship.
Industries Offered:
We offer internship placement in 18 different industries. You may see a sample of the companies we work with below in our Participating Employer list. After you have been accepted into the program and submitted your initial deposit, you will be allowed access to our complete employer list in your city of choice, as well as a detailed internship description for each position. Can I see a list of companies that have requested interns from U of Dreams?
Upon Enrollment in the program, participants are provided with a comprehensive list of employers. Please contact your city's Enrollment Advisor for more information about specific companies in your industry.
Will my internship be a paid position?
Ninety-five percent of our internships are unpaid. As such, we cannot guarantee anyone a paid internship. You may request a paid internship from your Placement Agent, but you cannot limit your placement to paid internships only. If you require a paid internship in order to be able to participate in the program, then our service is probably not the right fit for your needs. We have a great variety of internship opportunities available.
If I secure my own internship or job, can I participate in the program?
Yes, you would simply be responsible for purchasing a spot in our program for the full program fee and would receive all the same benefits of the other program participants. The only difference would be that we would not have any contact with your employer and you could not represent yourself as an official University of Dreams intern to your employer. If you are interested in this option, once you enroll, simply let your assigned Placement Agent know that you will be obtaining your own internship.
What hours should I expect to work?
Typically, the average work hours are no more than 40 hours per week and take place between the hours of 8 am to 6 pm. Some of the West Coast financial market positions start earlier to keep pace with the opening of the stock market, but they typically end their day earlier between the hours of 3 and 4 pm. Unless you are issued a train pass or drive yourself to work each day, you will be required to depart from campus at a designated time each morning and be picked up from work at the same time each day. The company at which you are interning will set your work hours in conjunction with our daily transportation schedules.
How likely is it that my internship will result in a full-time job offer?
The likelihood of any company making an intern a full-time job offer depends on that company's need and ability to hire a new employee, as well as the intern's performance, qualifications and fit for the open position. We can report, however, that from the University of Dreams Class of 2007, over 47% of survey respondents received offers to return as full-time employees or interns.
Will I have to obtain course credit to work in an unpaid internship?
All participants will receive contract academic credit for participating in a University of Dreams summer internship program. Our accredited academic partner, Menlo College, will issue the contract academic credit. Menlo College is a four-year institution located just two miles from Stanford University in Northern California. All University of Dreams participants are automatically enrolled in a class with Menlo College specifically designed to meet the needs of our participants and employers.
